A Prayer for Peace

Now, Great Shepherd, come to our aid!

Grant us peace, teach us peace;

Guide our steps in the way of peace.

Open our eyes and our hearts,

and give us the courage to say:  'Never again war!'

With war everything is lost.

Instill in our hearts the courage to take real steps to achieve peace.

Dear Friends,

If Jesus were born today,

he would arrive to the sounds of bombs and automatic weapons.

Mary and Joseph would have to shelter their newborn

amongst the concrete rubble and ash from continuous fighting.

Would he survive?  Can they live to take him to a safe place?

These are questions being asked today by residents of

Bethehem, which is located in the Israeli-occupied West Bank.

For many the answer is no.

Hundreds of babies have already died in the recent war in Gaza.

Too many in positions of power are unwilling

to give up their lust for power and revenge,

reluctant ensure the safety of babies and children.

Our path to peace leads away from such 'stiff necked people'

and toward the light of God.
