Back to Laboring Day

I would live all my life in nonchalance and insouciance,
Were it not for making a living,
Which is rather a nouciance.

Ogden Nash
Humorist and Poet

Born in Rye, New York and educated at Harvard, Ogden Nash knew quite a bit about the business world, poking fun at commerce and capitalism in free verse.

For more on the life, wit and humor of Ogden Nash, I recommend Ogden Nash: The Life and Work of America’s Laureate of Light Verse by Douglas Parker. This biography should entertain both avid Nash followers as well as those who know little more of the poet than the oft quoted Nash lines, “Candy is Dandy, but Liquor is Quicker.”
